Choose a Boudoir Gift to Capture Her Beauty for the Holidays

Contrary to popular belief, boudoir photography is not just for the young. In fact, most of my clients are women aged 40 and older, with many in their fifties and sixties. This unique form of photography is deeply personal and empowering for women at every stage of life.

Because she is worth it at every age, I believe everyone should be treated like a princess, and a boudoir or romantic photo-session with hair and makeup is a great way to spoil her.

While the word 'boudoir' may conjure images of women in lingerie or nude, it's important to note that this is just one interpretation. In reality, boudoir photography can capture the essence of a private sitting room or dressing room, showcasing a woman's beauty in a variety of settings and attire.

For as long as I can remember, society has portrayed women, especially when advertising, as only beautiful when they are in their twenties, up to thirty years of age, making women older than this feel irrelevant.  I see men’s comments on a celebrity's posts who are aging, saying, “She’s not relevant.”  How did we come to this, and especially today as progressed as we are supposed to be?

Good, strong men find their special lady beautiful at all ages, and they treasure her for a lifetime. These are special and rare men.  With that said, we are finding women seeking out ways to feel good about themselves again, still feeling beautiful and desirable, or even simply put, “relevant.”

What boudoir is for me as a photographer is a welcomed chance to lift a woman, making her feel and look beautiful again, treating her like a princess with hair and makeup offered, and then shaping her silhouette with beautiful studio lighting.  If the weather permits and a private location, a couple of outdoor shots can be nice.  However, I find that studio lighting helps me control shadowing the body, creating silhouettes to shape the bodies of women who haven’t kept their younger figures.

Boudoir sessions make a great gift for a man to give to his special lady, as its like a spa treatment, only it’s a gift that keeps on giving. Often, the woman can have one of the photos framed and displayed in their bedroom or a room that guests won’t be going into if she is shy, or it can be anywhere as artwork. I like to make photos more like artwork than just portraits for this very reason.  It’s a great keepsake gift to look back on and admire one’s beauty later in years.  I am doing one soon with a woman, and she wants to include her dog in one of the photos. Another misconception is that boudoir photography is only for those in a relationship. This couldn't be further from the truth. Boudoir photography is a form of self-care, a way to celebrate your beauty and strength. You don’t need a man to give you this gift. You have the power to gift yourself this beautiful art, a reminder of your beauty and resilience.

While this makes a great gift idea any time of the year, it’s especially great for Christmas or any holiday, as we often run out of ideas. How many sweaters can one have?  This will be art that lasts forever.  I love my art as a photographer, and I enjoy making people feel and look beautiful, women and men. I enjoy all aspects of my work: creating a beautiful setting, doing the hair and makeup, as well as having great music playing in the background, making it fun while putting my client at ease. I even have access to Harley-Davidson motorcycles, which I have used for some shots, adding a splash of either elegance or sexy.

Couples shots can be fun and romantic as well. It helps engage a couple and reignite their passion while giving them a wonderful keepsake piece of art as well. Don't hesitate to have your partner in a shot with you for added excitement. Too many people today, don't display their photos, except on social media.  A beautiful photo on the wall as artwork, will keep the romance of life alive. Memories don't come alive until they are in print, on the wall, or framed.
