STAND OUT...It's Your Only Option

People have gotten way too comfortable over the years with their businesses. I believe a big part is fear, not just comfort. For most of my life, I’ve dared to be different, and I never wanted to be like anyone else. It took me a bit to get there, as when I was a kid, I knew I was different. I was shy and a bit of an introvert, and I never felt like I fit in. This is a tough and vulnerable place to be until you realize it is a gift, not a curse.
DARE TO BE DIFFERENT
In the world of business, people are like sheep. They like to play it safe, follow the trends, follow the leaders, and don’t dare step out of their comfort zone. That may have worked years ago, but today, in the world of small businesses, with the economy and the powers that be making it more difficult for small business owners, you can’t afford to sit still and sit small.
When I was modeling as a young woman, I gravitated to the boutiques that were different, carrying high fashion and dared to be different. The world and fashion have changed as people have become more casual. Therefore, fashion has followed this trend, or it goes in the complete opposite direction, to the point of being void of fashion and quite freaky.
No matter what your business or products are, we must learn to stand out in these challenging times. I have watched many businesses go under over the last few years. They had great products, but they weren’t really doing anything different. During these last several years when I started networking, I’ve noticed people don’t want to try new things. Now, even more, that I am out there talking to business owners about my magazine, many are still stuck where they are, not wanting to try anything new. Advertising is tricky, because it’s something we must constantly do, because new businesses are popping up all of the time, so we must stay ahead of the game.
CHANGING YOUR GAME, IGNITES YOUR PASSION

I don’t know about other cities, but Greensboro is a very cliquey place. If you want to compete, you better stand out, dare to be different, and be open to new ideas. The only way you learn is to take that first step and be different. The same goes for the journey to your dreams; you must find a way to stand out, or you will get lost in the forest. It’s not rocket science, but when someone knocks on your door with a new opportunity, you better be willing to listen, or you might go stale.
I have found that whenever I feel like I am losing my passion during difficult or slow times, changing my game, creating new ideas, and standing out more, reignites my passion. Without my passion being on fire, I feel stuck, bored or defeated. Ignite your FIRE with a willingness to try something daring and new. Don't do what others are doing, be different.
I actually had a business owner tell me once, they didn't want to run any ads because they wanted to do what their competitors were doing, which was only using social media. Well, this person was, and is forever telling me how they were slow, and the business was struggling. They still wouldn't try anything different. Even though they weren't getting anywhere, they were not willing to try anything new. What can one expect, but the same old, same old?
You decide for yourself. Take a chance, do something new, dare to be different and your passion will come alive again, and so will you and your business!
