Valentine's Boudoir
We are made to believe that as we age, especially women, we are no longer useful, beautiful, and worthy of attention. When I decided to start photographing boudoir sessions, along with my other photography, my intention was to create an environment to glorify women of all ages and make them feel like supermodels. Since beauty runs skin deep, even the most seemingly beautiful people no longer appeal to the eye when they are riddled with ugliness on the inside. On the flip side, the not so seemingly beautiful people on the outside, yet swimming with inner beauty, become the most attractive in their physical appearance.

We live in the most judgmental of worlds with the launching of social media. Suddenly, we hear how we are no longer relevant if we are over 40 or 45. It seems to get earlier and earlier. As I have matured, I know what it is like to feel harsh on myself when I look in the mirror, feeling inadequate to society due to my age. What evolved from these feelings is my compassionate heart to also use my gifts to celebrate women who are beginning to age and feel like beautiful supermodels in my studio with my boudoir photography.

BOUDOIR
Boudoir sessions can feel very intimidating or uncomfortable when one takes that first step in front of a camera. I make my subjects feel comfortable with my genuine and caring personality, along with my gift as an artist of photography, to help them feel relaxed very quickly. I typically put on some fun and happy dance music to bring out the inner child in my subjects because our inner child knows no boundaries. We feel daring and uninhibited, unstoppable, and confident. Music, after all, soothes the savage beast; when we are feeling down about ourselves, this angry beast or devil appears, giving way to negative self-talk. My job is to remove negative self-talk through fun music, wonderful praise, and romantic lighting. I then charm my subjects by pumping positive self-talk back into their minds.

The icing on the cake is to pamper my clients by doing their hair and makeup. I want to make them feel pampered, look and feel like supermodels, casting away all doubts, to make them shine in front of the camera. By the time they stepped into my studio, they had already had time to relax in my chair and get to know me. With romantic hair and makeup, I have prepared them to feel like the supermodel. Once they’ve gone through this process, they act like supermodels when the shutter begins to click.

Boudoir sessions are for all ages, especially for women over 40. This is when the worry of aging sets in, low self-esteem, and doubt. My former experience as a model gives me the advantage of helping them pose without looking stiff, showing them how to move, and then they come up with their own creative ideas. There are so many creative ideas, and you can even add your fur-baby to the mix.
